Conserving Energy at Home
During the current pandemic, Lippolis Electric hopes that our customers and community are as safe as possible by staying home. However, spending the majority of our time at home probably means we are using twice as much electricity as we normally do. Have you noticed the increase in your electric bill? With parents working from home and kids attempting to learn virtually, a family needs to separate within their home which leads to increased and continuous use of lighting, HVAC, and devices. There is no better time to begin conserving electricity in your home than now. You can start today with these simple steps that will lead you towards living a more energy-conscious lifestyle and enjoy all of the perks of being energy-efficient which include saving money on your electric bill and helping the environment.
Turn Off Lights
Be mindful of how many lights you really need to be using at once. Begin to embrace natural light. For those who are working from home and have created a workspace, make sure it is near a window to use the natural light. Remember: The most efficient light bulb is one that is off. Getting into the habit of turning lights off when departing a room or not turning them on in the first place is one of the easiest tips to begin conserving energy… and saving on that electric bill.
Unplug Appliances
Did you know that an appliance that remains plugged in will keep using energy, even if powered off? If an appliance is not in use, it should not be plugged in. Your small electric coffee pot may be used every morning but you don’t have to keep it plugged in. After your morning coffee is brewed, unplug it until the next morning. With keeping it plugged in 24/7, it will still slowly use up energy. Something that can help make this task easier is a power strip. Instead of unplugging several devices out of their individual sockets, all you have to do is flip the switch on the power strip. Even the smallest of things such as your phone charger being plugged in will use electricity over time.
Replace All Lighting With LEDs
LED lighting has become relatively affordable now and is made in every size, shape, brightness, and color you may need. The increased lifespan and minimal wattage of LEDs will help significantly reduce the use of electricity as well as the need for maintenance during a time like this when we are keeping our lights on longer. Lippolis Electric can make upgrading your home light fixtures to LED easy. Send pictures to Sales@LippolisElectric.com of the fixtures in your home you would like to upgrade and we can recommend the best LEDs to use. We can either ship the LED lamps to you directly to install yourself or we can send a service technician in all of the proper PPE to install them for you.
